I know, I know, I'm totally late to the party (as usual). I'm just catching up on all the blogathon-ness that I missed.

I noticed that avocados are mentioned on the list of toxins. I know there is somewhat of a debate as to whether or not they are toxic. Are you firmly on the toxin side? And what is in the avocado that is toxic?

I was recently playing around with recipe ideas and looked in a recipe book for dogs (I do this, along with human cookbooks sometimes for inspiration though we are totally gluten free so they can't actually apply).

Well! There was a treat recipe with 1/4 cup of raisins in it! Yup -- you heard me, raisins! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I immediately e-mailed not only the e-mail in the book but also the publisher. A few days later I got an e-mail back from the latter, saying it's not their book (same e-mail tho??), they just bought the company and they don't condone it. Hhmpf. No action.

K, the publisher. Nada, zilch, nothing, zero. This was months ago. I wrote about it in a blog and on Facebook (w/o naming names) just to remind people that "just because it's in writing, does not make it so" and to do their research and know their stuff. I contacted the publisher several times and got not one response! Nice, huh?!

Granted the book may have been written before we really knew about raisin toxicity -- maybe, not sure -- but I purchased the book after it was known!

If we can recall baby items, cars, foods, whatever, why can't we recall a book with a potentially poisonous recipe? At the very least, you'd think the publisher could send an addendum to accompany each book, no? No. I guess not. Very sad. Case in point to read up from valued sources, like this.
