It’s National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week! November 1-7 marks a week to honor the people who do so much for some of our most vulnerable animal friends. It is a tough and often thankless job.
Romeo, the wonderful cat fundraiser extraordinaire over at Romeothecat and founder of the pawparty on Twitter, has issued a challenge: do something. Anything.
So, I’m trying to come up with ideas. I was mulling a Brody calendar (or even better, a calendar of multiple pets we’ve come to love) but I don’t know if I could get that together in time for this event. The other idea is to do a blogathon- I commit to staying up for 24 hours and doing one post an hour, becoming less and less coherent as it continues. It’s like the jogathon from elementary school, except sedentary.
What do you guys think? Anyone up for this? Would I be stuck hitting my parents up to sponsor me just like in junior high? Any other animal loving bloggers (cough cough) want to make this a PARTY and do it too?
don’t make this one of those crickets chirping posts! I’ll make it worth your while if I get enough sponsors. Prizes! Bad poetry! Your burning questions answered! Brody pics on demand!

I’m in!
Kudos Dr V and to my pal Romeo the Cat (Pugsley, too!) for lighting a fire about the topic of shelter awareness.

That would be the best way of all to honor this week!

I like the blog idea — I’ll sponsor you! I love your entries anyway so the thought of reading ones that become less and less coherent with bad poetry included sounds awesome!
Gotta deliver on the Brody pics too, though – that would be one of my conditions for sponsorship…

OK, I’ll keep up my end of the bargain if you keep up yours! I’ll even do requests if you manage to convince me.
It can be like those naughty sites where you pay women to pose for the camera, except G rated. :p

I’d love to hear more about the blogathon idea. You’d blog every hour and give away prizes to commenters every hour??
At the very least I would be happy to donate dog treats to the prize pool! But maybe I can do more, depending on how this evolves. We should talk.

I would blog every hour. People can sponsor just a flat amount or per post. I haven’t figured out how I’m going to work that but I assume I’ll ask people to donate directly to the shelter I’m blogging for, but that will work itself out.
I’ll give away as many prizes as I have pledged to sponsors based on arbitrary designations I come up with at 2 am.

I’ll definitely donate treats. I have another idea. Do you have chat capability here? Maybe you can do a LIVE chat to kick off the blagathon. May bring many more people to the table. I would be happy to M.C., maybe with someone from a shelter participating too (have someone in mind who would probably be on board). I can recommend a free Chat platform if you don’t have that capability here.

That’s a great idea. I don’t think I have chat enabled…would have to be mac compatible…
Guests are awesome! The more the merrier! I love it!

Coming out of lurk mode to help the shelters! I’ll donate some Calming Collars if you’d like to use them as prizes. Just email me and we can work out the details.

That would be amaziing! I’ll e-mail you soon.

If you want to e-mail me I can tell you more about the chat platform I use (SavorChat). It’s online so is Mac compatible (I use Mac too). There is a free version I use but if you want to have it branded and look like your blog site, that’s another option (don’t know that cost but probably not a lot). My e-mail is annette@biscuitsbylambchop.com.

Can’t wait to hear the details. I’ll contribute $5 for every Brody pic (accompanied by a story or creative caption) up to $50. Wish I could do more…

This is a great idea . . . I was wondering if you might mention another great shelter, AniMeals? We are a no kill adoption center and animal food bank in Missoula, MT. We have so many animals right now and need all the help we can get! Thanks.
